EVA Debrief Replays

To view a replay, follow the link for the EVA debrief you wish to see:

Requirements

The meeting replay client requires a reasonably modern web browser capable of executing Javascript, with Quicktime and Java plugins installed. If you do run into problems, first try to make sure you have the latest versions of these software components; we've been working with the following versions:

Replay Instructions

Note that when you first load the Replay, you will be asked to trust the applet that is loading - signed by "CoAKTinG RST Support, University of Southampton" - but not verified. Please answer Yes to enable GroupSync. We will to get a certificate from a certificate authority at some point soon, so that this doesn't appear quite so, uh, dodgy! Until then, you'll just have to trust us...

The replay layout is constrained by the size of the Compendium screenshot - as such we've designed the replay for full screen viewing.

To enable full screen in Internet Explorer (IE6, Windows XP):

When you open the replay interface in your web browser, it will look similar to this (in this screenshot, the functional regions of the interface have been highlighted and numbered): Replay Interface The numbered regions:

  1. The main video section - this displays the video of the hab crew in the top right, superimposed over the screen capture of the Compendium session. These are streamed from a media server, so normally there will be a short delay while the video starts to download.
  2. Meeting support information - on the left the participants, the meeting date, the title; on the right who is speaking in the current section of video, and brief details of the Compendium node being created at that point.
  3. The timeline - horizontal lines represent the periods when a person talks, or a Compendium node is created. Hover over a timeline section to see a tooltip with a brief description; click to make the video jump to the corresponding part of the meeting. The slider shows how far through the meeting the video has progressed; the slider can also be used to jump to a different section of meeting.
  4. The control panel - this shows the current time index into the video, and can be used to play and pause the replay. It also contains the GroupSync controls, which are explained below.

GroupSync Controls

The meeting replay GroupSync functionality allows you to broadcast your navigation of the video to other RST members when you meet collectively. At any one time, a single RST member is designated the Master - any actions the master takes (play, pause, reposition) are relayed to other RST members who have their replay client in slave mode.

To enable GroupSync functionality, select Online in the Control Panel. To disable, select Offline.

To receive updates as a slave make sure the Mode setting in the Control Panel is set to Slave. The Receiving setting selects whether your replay interface will follow the actions of the remote master or ignore them. If you use the timeline to change position while you are a slave, Receiving will automatically be reset to No, and you must turn it back on to regain synchronisation with the master.

To send updates as the master make sure the Mode setting is Master. To send out your control actions to the other replay clients, set Broadcasting to yes. Remember that each change in video position will take a few moments to stream through from the video server - if you need to fine-tune your position it may be worth temporarily setting Broadcasting to No until you've found the right spot.

Controlling the Meeting Replay from Compendium

As well as watching the screen capture of the Compendium session from the EVA debrief, you can use the installation of Compendium on your own machine to navigate the replay video. This is slightly more complicated to set up as we need to tell the two applications how to communicate with each other. You will also need an account on the Open University Jabber server - this is that same account you use with the BuddySpace instant messaging tool. (we may be able to use some temporary shared accounts for the time being - more details to follow)
